Federal data management career path needs improvement, CDO Council vice chair says

(FedScoop) A clearer trajectory for data professionals in government could address the issue of the data field being a temporary career stop, said Rob King, the vice chair of the Chief Data Officers Council. State Department Eyes AI Marketplace for Personnel

(Executive Gov) The State Department is working to develop a new artificial intelligence marketplace that would deliver specialized AI capabilities to its employees across the agency, Nextgov/FCW reported Friday. Matthew Graviss, chief data and artificial intelligence officer at the State Department, said the agency expects the planned AI marketplace to serve as a flexible vehicle for approved AI software offerings. Financial Audit: IRS’s FY 2024 and FY 2023 Financial Statements

(U.S. Government Accountability Office) The Internal Revenue Service collects taxes to fund federal programs and services. In FY24, IRS collected about $5.1 trillion in taxes and paid out more than $553 billion in tax refunds, credits, and other payments. We audit and issue opinions annually on IRS’s financial statements and on related internal controls (e.g., processes to reasonably assure that transactions are properly authorized and recorded). In FY24, we found the statements were reliable and that controls over financial reporting were effective—although some controls over unpaid assessments could be improved. Read More


How do you vote from space? NASA astronauts cast 2024 election ballots from ISS

(Space.com) Election day in the United States is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and even American astronauts living in space are taking the time to fulfill their civic duty and cast their votes. There are four Americans currently aboard the Internationals Space Station (ISS): SpaceX Crew-9 NASA astronauts Don Pettit, Nick Hague, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, and each has had the opportunity to add their voice to the more than 160 million other Americans able to participate in tomorrow’s election.
